Integrated Land Ecosystem-Atmosphere Processes Study, iLEAPS

iLEAPS is the land-atmosphere core project of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP). The scientific goal of iLEAPS is to provide understanding how interacting physical, chemical and biological processes transport and transform energy and matter through the land-atmosphere interface. iLEAPS encourages international and crossdisciplinary collaboration, particularly involving scientists from the developing countries.

IGBP Climate-Change Index launched

IGBP has launched the Climate-Change Index at the United Nations climate negotiations in Copenhagen. The index combines annual changes of four directly-measured key parameters of global change: carbon dioxide, temperature, sea level and sea ice.

Call for abstracts for EGU2010 with several iLEAPS sessions

Deadline for abstract submission for the European Geosciences Union General Assembly 2010 (EGU2010), 2-7 May 2010 in Vienna, Austria, is 18 Jan 2010. There are in total 10 iLEAPS  co-sponsored sessions in BG (Biogeosciences), CL (Climate: past, present, future) and HS (Hydrological Sciences), and additionally, an interesting session on gas to particles in AS (Atmospheric Sciences).

Review article on aerosol effects in Nature
In the beginning of October 2009 a review article on Untangling aerosol effects on clouds and precipitation in a buffered system was published in Nature (Vol 461, Issue 7264 , p. 607) by Bjorn Stevens and Graham Feingold. The paper is linked to the Aerosol, Clouds, Precipitation, Climate (ACPC ) program initiated by iLEAPS, IGAC and GEWEX .
