Welcome to the News and Events page of iLEAPS (Integrated Land Ecosystem-Atmosphere Processes Study). Here, you'll find a curated list of conferences, workshops, webinars, and collaborative meetings that bring together the global community of researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders dedicated to understanding the complex interactions between land ecosystems and the atmosphere.

Our events are designed to foster innovation, facilitate knowledge exchange, and strengthen collaboration across disciplines to address critical environmental challenges such as climate change, air quality, and ecosystem resilience. Whether you're a seasoned expert or a budding researcher, these events provide a platform to share ideas, build networks, and contribute to the iLEAPS mission of advancing science for the benefit of society.

Call to Host the iLEAPS International Project Office (IPO)

iLEAPS welcomes applications from universities, research institutes, Future Earth hubs, national science organisations, and similar bodies with experience in international collaboration and sustainability sciences. Applications (6 pages max) should briefly describe:

1. Institutional profile and alignment with iLEAPS

2. Proposed hosting model, staffing, and operational support

3. Vision for strengthening iLEAPS in the coming years

4. Relevant experience hosting international programmes or networks

5. Opportunities for regional and global engagement

Timeline

• March 2026: Call launched

• 31 October 2026: Deadline for applications

• November 2026: Evaluation of applications

• January 2027: Transitioning

• March 2027:

Announcement and formal take over from UKCEH Enquiries and Submission Questions and applications may be directed to: ipo@ileaps.org.

Pan-GLASS 2026 conference

Registration and abstract submission are now open for the Pan-GLASS 2026 conference which will take place 6-9 July, 2026 in Stuttgart, Germany.

This international conference will bring together modelers, observationalists, and theoreticians working across scales and disciplines to advance understanding and modeling of land-atmosphere interactions. The meeting will support in-depth discussion and coordination across global research efforts, with a focus on improving representations of the coupled land-atmosphere system in Earth system models. Topics will span from fundamental processes to operational modeling, including but not limited to:
• Advancing soil processes for understanding the soil-plant-atmosphere continuum: from bedrock to stomata.
• Observing and parameterizing turbulence at the land-atmosphere interface.
• Leveraging machine learning to benchmark and rethink the modeling of land-atmosphere interactions.
• Understanding and modeling the role of heterogeneity over the land surface in the coupled land-atmosphere system.
• Investigations of cloud and precipitation feedbacks over land.
• Representing anthropogenic influences in the water and energy cycles: Implications for surface fluxes and PBL dynamics.

Please note that the abstract submission deadline is 28 February, 2026 and the early bird registration deadline is 30 April, 2026.
